Hi Guys in this blog I'm going write about my journey of learning japanese and try to give you guys a idea of how you should approach learning it.
First of all i want to make it clear that I'm just in the beginning of learning this new language but I have done some research on which is the common way to learn Japanese so what your gonna read below is that way and some tips for beginners like me.
Japanese has three alphabets hiragana, katakana and kanji. First you have to learn hiragana which as 46 letters, this is the first thing Japanese kids learn so most people can learn this in few hours or days. I recommend using mnemonics to learn this because it really helped me! Hiragana is used for writing most japanese words, grammar etc..
After learning hiragana you should learn Katakana which has 46 characters just like hiragana. Katakana letters has the same sounds as hiragana but the way they are written is different. It's used for writing foreign words in Japanese, for Onomatopoeia and names. I learned both of these in like 5 days so it should be easy for you too!
After learning hiragana and katana you will have to learn kanji which I have yet to start. But just know that it's very hard compared to Hira and kata kanas and each kanji character represents a word or an idea, kanji are Chinese characters that japanese borrowed into their own language, even japanese people struggle with this, so you just have to hang in there and practice kanji every day.
While learning kanji you should also study the Japanese vocabulary and grammar there are a lot of website for this. Try to watch japanese movies with English subtitles to become familiar with the language.
After you learn some vocabulary and basic grammar start practicing basic japanese phrases.
If you did all this you will be somewhat fluent in Japanese. At the very least you will be able to interact with a Japanese person or read Japanese without problems! Keep practicing and learning and you will become fully fluent in no time.
